Ubon Ratchathani (North East of Thailand) September 2019.
In September 2019 Ubon Ratchathani experienced one of the worst floods in living memory. With hundreds of thousands of people, estimated around 400,000 affected, many charitable organizations sent help to assess the situation.
A team from the Order of Malta-Thailand as well, left Bangkok to help and report back what was needed once the water receded.
The team were warmly welcomed by the people of Ubon Ratchathani as well as the local mayors, local groups and the Royal Thai Military.
The situation was indeed critical, all we could do at that stage was to provide dry food, water, fungus cream for infected feet due to dirty water and moral support definitely.
Prior to departing, The Order of Malta met with the local Emergency groups, and we promised to be back as soon as we could not mobilise transport, since the roads were flooded and blocked at this stage.
We left with a heavy heart though determined to return to Ubon Ratchathani. We did return when the water receded, in eight weeks.
